Strange, I cannot see the pictures either, like in about one half of Budgie's postings. It could be some browser and formatting related problem, but it occurs in IE, Firefox and Seamonkey. If I take the address of one of the images from the source text and open it in another browser window, then it will show also when I reload the forum page.
@ejcrow: There are no links, only the names of the pictures as text. The only difference to HTML text is that I cannot copy and paste these names, so it seems to be recognized as something like an image.

Just as Bernd says, I can also copy the links and open in another browser....but they do work perfectly for me when I open this thread.....I'm using google chrome.
This hotlink warning is something different, because this would be shown to every reader of the forum.
The pictures work perfectly if I use wget to fetch them to my harddrive and open them from there in my browser. So there should not be a problem with the JPEG encoding of the pictures.
Can you see the following picture, maybe three times?
This first one is inserted by the tree symbol in the toolbar above, but I cannot see the picture.
This second one is inserted directly in HTML, but I cannot see the picture.
This third one is inserted by the "Attach Image(s)" button below the preview field, and (surprise, surprise!) I can see it. So if someone wants to be sure that even Victorandss and I see the pictures he would have to upload them from his own harddrive by "Attach Image(s)". But as I mentioned, up to now with the exception of a good part of Budgie's images all pictures of other posters were visible to me without problems.
Greetings
Bernd

Yes, I don't remember any problems with your pictures. I always thought it is somehow Budgie's fault that so many of his pictures do not work and some others (e.g. those from Private) work, but now I see it is some particular technical problem (combination of webserver and browser?) we probably cannot solve here (apart from always using the "Attach image(s)" button, but this is a bit tiresome if the pictures are already at another website).

Thanks Bernd. I can only see the third picture. The first and second ones appear as above with a red "X".
I am using Internet Explorer -8 - is there a setting that I need to change, I wonder?
The Third Picture
I am very interested in knowing how you managed to post this picture to display directly from your computer? But, does your computer have to be switched on always for the picture to appear on the Forum?
As you may know, I have had to completely re-post hundreds of pictures a few years ago when the earlier CSS Storage Site of Martin's friend ceased to exist. It took me many weeks to do this. Then, recently, again all my wallpapers for Lea and Silvia went missing (they are now back after Martin paid for another year's subscription on his new CSS Storage Site). I was proposing to send Martin cash for another 5 years (making in all 6 years from now) plus a further 10 years taking us up to the year 2029 at least. At the same time, I have started making a backup topic using a free storage site (but of course, that might close by the year 2029!).
Using your third method, can I post my backups directly from my hard drive? But if so, where are they stored on the Web?
Donati in China wrote to me that there are no free sites that last forever! (well at least till the Sun expands and consumes the Earth).
>I am very interested in knowing how you managed to post this picture to display directly from your computer?
Under the edit window there is a button "Attach Image(s)". Click on it, choose the picture(s) to upload from your drive and confirm. If you want the pictures only as clickable thumbnails with a "View image" link pointing to the full size file then you are done now (but the thumbnails do not appear in the preview then, you can only see them when you send the message). If you want to include them in the original size then you have to click on "insert" at the right of the filename, and the image is inserted on the position of the cursor.
>But, does your computer have to be switched on always for the picture to appear on the Forum?
No.
>Using your third method, can I post my backups directly from my hard drive?
Yes, you can. Until yesterday I was not aware of this option. But if you choose the thumbnail option you get an image name like http://files.activeboard.com/1207762?AWSAccessKeyId=1XXJBWHKN0QBQS6TGPG2&Expires=1352332800&Signature=EA17P%2B71xvRHavLxRtkua7SG4g8%3D
So "Expires" is already in the filename and I would not bet that the picture is kept for a very long time. One should check this on older postings in the forum.
>But if so, where are they stored on the Web?
The third picture above (visible to all of us) is stored as http://saint-archives.activeboard.com/download.spark?ID=1207438&aBID=9318 So they are stored directly on activeboard, which should be the best place because then they SHOULD disappear only at the same time as the whole forum they are associated to, not before or afterwards. Anyway, I have some doubt if they are really kept this long. Try it out and keep your backups.
>Donati in China wrote to me that there are no free sites that last forever!
And some others like me also wrote it to you. Eternally guarantueed gratuities are rare.
Greetings Bernd
PS: Included first thumbnail also in full size for test purposes. 12/11/04

Thanks Bernd for the information about the "Third" method. I don't want "thumbnails" and I see that there is the ominous word "Expires" contained within the storage address! I am trying as a test a couple of wallpapers of Silvia's to see what happens
As I wrote above: Once you have uploaded the pictures (with the first step you did to get the thumbnails in your last posting), below the preview window you should see their names, each with the word "insert" at the right of the filename. Click on insert then, and the full size file is included in your message at the position of the cursor. You will see it in the preview then.
And the problem with Budgie's pictures that are invisible for us seems to be unsolvable for now.
