Niemals geht man so ganz! Irgendwas von Dir bleibt hier. (You never fully leave! Part of you stays behind.)

Lea_De_Mae_6.JPG

The subject is the title of a German song:
cover version
original, poor quality

The text (from 1987) is originally about a woman (Trude Herr) who has to leave her longstanding hometown and her friends. But with its melancholic melody the song has become also a popular funeral music. It is somehow a regional anthem of Cologne (the musicians are all three from Cologne) and I like it although I'm not from there.

Translated text:

Niemals geht man so ganz (You never fully leave) - Trude Herr, Tommy Engel & Wolfgang Niedecken

[TH] If someone takes leave,
goes into the unknown,
with the wind, like leaves waft.

[WN] You sing a song of goodbye,
about itchy feet,
about horizon, salt and tar.

[TE] Who straps on her satchel,
looking where she belongs,
like a migratory bird,
has more than one home.

[TH] One leaves a lot behind,
Friend, I thank you,
for the last kiss, the last salute.

[all] I want to go on,
see no tears,
a farewell is a far cry from death.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of me stays behind
it has its place
and that's with you for ever.

[WN] No matter how much it hurts,
don't clip their wings,
when someone cannot see a future in the cold.

[TE] Don't burden the heart of a roamer,
just fly along for a part of her way.

[all] But then set me free,
see, the world is large,
without freedom I'm almost like dead.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of me stays behind
it has its place
and that's with you for ever.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of me stays behind
it has its place
and that's with you for ever.

[TH] I promise to you,
I'll come back to you
when the wind blows from the South.

[TE] I don't say good-bye
that word sounds like a mockery
[WN] utterly hollow ... Fare Well

[all] See, I too shed a tear,
tears are like smoke
they wear away, this cage just kills me.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of me stays behind
it has its place
and that's with you for ever.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of me stays behind
it has its place
and that's with you for ever.

[all] You never fully leave,
part of you goes with me
it has its place and that's with me for ever.

Roses for Lea

This reminds me of the Elvis song "Mama Loved The Roses"....

Some of the black & white photos show a very sad Gladys Presley as her son Elvis is leaving for his US Army 2 years service - she had poor health and died not long after when Elvis was stationed in Germany. The blonde young lady to the left of Elvis's mother was his girlfriend of the time, Anita Wood.

In Germany, Elvis met the then 14 year-old Priscilla, who he eventually married.  But should he have married Ann Margret?  - photos on the set of "Viva Las Vegas" (MGM 1964).

Dear Friends
First or last, the Land will withdrew us and will return itself matter, which we have taken beside it in lease. We change in ashes. So if sense to resist, put the efforts for avoiding inevitable? Don't care, there is.
No need to cry. No need sadly to be. This law of the God. The Law to lifes. Such a nature of the things!

Who loves only itself, that God can not love. But who does not love itself for the sake of to God, that loves God. We must love other not less, as themselves itself.

WE LOVE YOU LEA DE MAE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As sung by Cliff Richard...

From "Wiki":  In 1964, the Italian song was revived by Cliff Richard in his single English language single "Constantly" with music based on L'Edera. The single, a non-album release was entitled "Constantly (L'Edera)". Music was credited to S. Seracini, the original composer of "l'Edera". The English lyrucs to the song were written by Michael Julien. The recording was arranged and conducted by Norrie Paramor.

The British single reached No.  4 in UK Singles Chart chart and was an international hit charting in Australia (No. 6), Ireland (No. 8), New Zealand (No. 3), Norway (No. 4) and Sweden (No. 10) and was certified silver in the UK.

The song "Constantly" mentioned in the previous posting was a hit record for England's Cliff Richard in April 1964.

Cliff's long career has been recognised in England and he was knighted by the Queen of England. So, he is now Sir Cliff Richard.

In the late 50's Cliff and Billy Fury were dubbed "England's Answer to Elvis Presley"

Cliff Richard circa 1963

Billy Fury meets his idol, Elvis Presley on the film set of "Girls! Girls! Girls!" in 1962. This is the film where Elvis sings "Return To Sender" (No.1 hit in the UK).

NB. When Elvis was doing his US Army service in Germany during 1958 (after completing "King Creole" with Army permission for a delay in induction) - 1960, Cliff drove to the house in Germany where Elvis was staying but unfortunately missed seeing his idol.

"The Twelfth Of Never"

One of my earlier wallpapers for Lea used the words of the 1964 No.3 hit of Cliff's song "The Twelfth of Never". In later years, Donny Osmond (Puppy Love) used to perform this song. The song was written by Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis Webster, the tune (except for the bridge) being adapted from "The Riddle Song" (also known as "I Gave My Love a Cherry"), an old English folk song. It was a hit for Johnny Mathis in 1957 (who in 1959 also sang "Misty" - the one in the 1971 Clint Eastwood movie "Play Misty For Me").

There is an early audio file of Cliff singing "The Twelfth of Never" on the Web at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AthIb2a4eP8&feature=related

Here also is a live video version of the song recorded over 40 years later with Cliff and Olivia Newton-John singing it together at a Royal Variety Show at the London Coliseum theatre in the west end of London on 14th December 2004 (in the presence of Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth).

Also, some pictures below from that show. Note Olivia curtseying to the Royal Box where Prince Charles was sitting. Also, note Judy Garland's daughter, Liza Minnelli standing to the left of Olivia in the final picture.

The following is included in Wikipedia's entry for Cliff.

"Over a 52-year career, Cliff Richard has become a fixture of the British entertainment world. He has amassed hundreds of gold and platinum discs and awards, including three
Brit awards and two Ivor Novello awards, making him one of the most successful singers of all time. He has had more than 130 singles (Sold more than 120 million singles worldwide), albums and EPs make the UK Top 20, more than any other artist.[4] He holds the record (with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make the UK singles charts in all of its first six decades (1950s2000s). He has achieved 14 UK number one singles (or 18, depending on the counting methodology) and is the only singer to have had a number one single in the UK in five consecutive decades: the 1950s through to the 1990s (discounting digital downloads and counting only CDs, he also had a UK number one single in the 2000s). He is the biggest selling singles artist of all time in the UK, with total sales of over 27 million and UK album sales of over 18 million...."

Another of the wallpapers/posters for Lea was made using the words of the song "Magic" performed by Olivia Newton-John in her 1980 movie "Xanadu" (which also starred an older Gene Kelly).

Here is a Web video of Olivia in 1980 performing to her studio recording of the dreamy song "Magic".

200px-Xanadufilm.jpg

In the same movie, a recording of "Suddenly" was used in a scene in a deserted roller-skating palace. The recording was by Olivia and Cliff Richard (although Cliff does  not actually appear in the movie).

There is a video on the Web of Olivia and Cliff performing to this recording from I think about 40 years ago.  Olivia always included this song in her concerts performing it with various male singers if Cliff wasn't a guest in the show.  The sound is very good on this film clip.

Actually, it was Cliff who first introduced Olivia to the wider public in 1971 and she was a regular guest singer for 13 weeks in his Television Shows on the BBC in 1972 in the UK. They performed many pleasant duets together and seemed very well vocally matched.

Above, a young Cliff Richard and his song "In A Matter Of Moments" (composed by Bruce Welch, a member of Cliff's original group "The Shadows"), which was featured in the movie "Wonderful Life". The movie was premiered at the Empire Theatre in Leicester Square, in the west end of London on 2nd July 1964.  In the same month, The Beatles' black & white film "A Hard Day's Night" was released.

IOnlyhaveEfYouXat.jpg

I think very suitable words of this old 30's song to dedicate to our own lovely Lea.

From the Web:

"I Only Have Eyes for You" is a popular song by composer Harry Warren and lyricist Al Dubin, written in 1934 for the film Dames where it was introduced by Dick Powell and Ruby Keeler. According to Billboard magazine, the song was a #2 hit for Ben Selvin in 1934. The orchestras of Peter Duchin and Anson Weeks also figured in the song's 1934 popularity.

This song was recorded in 1950 by Peggy Lee, and most notably by The Flamingos in 1959, becoming one of their most popular hits. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the Flamingos' version #157 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This version peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; later, this version was included on the soundtrack for the 1973 film American Graffiti. A remake of the song by Art Garfunkel was a number one song on the UK Singles Chart in October 1975 for two weeks. The song was his first hit as a solo artist in the UK.

Here is an early Frank Sinatra recording:

Young and Beautiful - Days - Harem Girl!

LeaandElvis.JailhouseRockphoto-1Xat.jpg

Here is the closing scene of the 1957 movie "Jailhouse Rock" (MGM) filmed in black & white. This song clip of "Young and Beautiful" is from a later video which was "colorised".  To explain, in the movie, Vince (Elvis) sustained an injury to his throat in an attack by his own assistant (who was very regretful later on) and he was recovering from a throat operation and it was not known if he would ever be able to sing again. Fortunately, he was!

Elvis's charming co-star with the dark hair, was Judy Tyler.  Tragically, Judy was killed in a car accident soon after (some said murdered?). Elvis never watched his own movie again as he and his Memphis companions had really liked her.

The title song from the movie also called "Jailhouse Rock" went straight to No.1 of the "Top 20" Record Hits here in the UK in 1957.

Here is Elvis (in colour) in dynamic action singing "Jailhouse Rock".
